The blogosphere has been buzzing about FriendFeed lately, unfortunately for the wrong reasons; there seems to be a general lack of understanding about FriendFeed, yet its redesign and search facility make it a fantastic tool for PRs and social media marketers.

Here are a few tips on how to make the most of FriendFeed

1) Fill in your biography and upload your photo – you wouldn’t leave your Twitter profile blank would you?

2) When it comes to FriendFeed, less is more. Whilst you might be able to follow 1000+ people on Twitter, 1000+ FriendFeeds sounds a) silly b) unmanageable. FriendFeed helps you cut through the noise by easily organising the feeds you follow. I use FriendFeed as an RSS reader to follow my favourite blogs whilst de-cluttering my Google Reader, but I also use it as a TweetDeck to keep on top of what’s going on in various countries.

3) Add your online presences to your account – FriendFeed is a lifestreaming service, i.e. a service that aggregates all your online presences under one roof.

4) The real time search is fantastic – it’s very much like Twitter Search, but better as it also searches blogs, Tumblelogs, Flickr, YouTube etc. If you are a marketer or a PR practitioner, you’ll be able to find out who the influencers are, and their sentiment towards your brand real-time etc. You can choose to search just your FriendFeed subscriptions or the whole of FriendFeed

5) Join/Create FriendFeed rooms – FriendFeed rooms can be a fantastic tool for NPD or simply to hear what people have to say about your brand or product.
