Goodbye chain emails, hello Facebook
You might have spotted this recent article on Mashable, discussing the most popular social networks for link-sharing.
99% of emails I receive these days are work related and I use Facebook to keep in touch with my friends; I am sure you’re all trilled that chain/joke emails are now a thing of the past! Remember these FW: FW: FW: FW: emails we used to receive in our inboxes?
Looking at my own link-sharing behaviour, sharing a link on Facebook and sharing a link on Twitter are two completely different things.
Facebook link-sharing could be classified as high-involvement link-sharing, i.e. I tend to be quite selective as to what content is being pushed through my account as I don’t want to spam my friends.
Twitter link-sharing on the other hand, could be classified as low-medium involvement link sharing i.e. much more frequent and the tweet tends to be flushed out quite quickly in a user’s timeline.
I have to admit that I was extremely surprised to see that Facebook accounts for 24% of all items shared online. The majority of my friends can be classified as technophobes, and have a very basic understanding of Facebook and its features (some of them do not even know how to see/what to do with their wall).I would have expected Twitter to rank much higher in the link-sharing league, considering that many Twitter users share 2+ links on Twitter everyday.
What are your thoughts? Are you as surprised as I am by these stats?

I think it's not just the involvement, it's also what you share. If I see something social-media-related I would tend not to share it on FB, as my friends are likely not going to be interested. I'd share it on Twitter, 'cause of my network. On FB, I tend to care slightly less. At the end of the day, if I spam my friends (i.e. if what I'm sharing does not interest them) they block me or hide me from their feed or whatever. I blocked some of my friends because of this, and don't regret it.
I mostly share videos anyway, music mainly. And, given my taste for music, I know for sure that most of my friends don't give a damn (or, can I say shit on your blog?) about the videos I post
