Socialnomics
TweetHere’s the latest video hotting things up in the crazy world of social media.
Here are a few fun facts from the video that stood out for me:
- By 2010 Gen Y (that’s me!) will outnumber Baby Boomers
- Social Media has overtaken porn as the #1 activity on the Web; I wonder when we’ll see the first social media porn sites, ha!
- If Facebook were a country, it would be the 4th largest in the world behind China, India and the United States
- 80% of Twitter usage is on mobile devices – people update, anywhere, anytime
- In 2009 Boston College stopped distributing email addresses to incoming freshmen; not that’s seriously cool! Does anyone know what they’re using instead? Yammer perhaps?
- 25% if search results for the World’s Top 20 largest brands are links to user-generated content; thank you for keeping me employed
And the icing on the cake; people care more about how their social graphs rank products and services than how Google ranks them.
This final statement, demonstrates the importance of social media as consumers and how it can influence our decision-making process on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, while socialnomiocs’ author Erik Qualman may be a Social Media expert, he tends to be somewhat naïve and foolish when it comes to general brand management.
