I haven’t felt the need to need to blog or tweet that much in the last couple of months… I blame my out of control social media consumption for this overload; Social Media became too much.

Things are moving fast in this digital age, where we are consuming and compiling plenty of information from hundreds even thousands of RSS and Twitter feeds. But do we really enjoy and appreciate them?

Remember the old adage less is more?

Google Reader

Think strategically when choosing the blogs you susbcribe to; do you really need to susbcribe to all those Social Media blogs? Unlikely.

I’ve classified the blogs I subscribe to in different sub-folders:

  • My ‘must reads’ which include my favourite social media blogs such as Mashable and Dosh Dosh but to name a few
  • Friends’ blogs; the beauty of social media is the relationships that come out blogging/Twittering. Social media is about forging relationships after all and I make a point in reading and commenting on my friends’ blogs on a regular basis.
  • And finally my ‘brain candies’ i.e. non-social blogs relating to my personal interests including Art of the State and The Business of Fashion.

I also use the premium Mobile RSS App (worth every penny), which lets you read your feeds offline on your way to work. No more excuses not to read your feeds.

Twitter Lists

Click follow, click follow, click follow, click follow… My Twitter stream fast became ‘spammy’… until Twitter introduced the lists a few months ago, allowing me to finally classify my Twitter followers. I have imported the lists in TweetDeck. making it easier for me to engage with different sub-groups of Twitterers.

My6Sense

Last but certainly not least, I recently discovered a nifty mobile app called My6Sense. The app organize your feeds according to a personalized recommendation system (in their own word ‘your digital intuition’), that automatically learns from the content you read as you browse through both your RSS and Twitter feeds. The more you use My6sense, the more intuitive it gets, thus sending the content that you want to read your way.
