My fav Olympic memes so far
Dubbed the social media Olympics, social media managers working on London 2012 have absolutely excelled at sharing updates through a variety of social channels this year.
But let’s not forget that social media is about people, sharing with other people, and creative internet minds can quickly turn an innocent picture with a into a meme. Here’s a roundup of my fav memes to date:
- Mayor Boris Johnson mayor made headlines after he got stuck on a zipline in Victoria Park, and the memes started rolling in fast and furious. Boris was quickly seen dangling in front of… a lot of stuff! Personal favourites include a Bolt of Boris, om nom nom, and apple bobbinb. From a PR perspective, Boris handled the whole ‘hell I am stuck on a zipline’ very well indeed! Kudos, for keeping your calm!
- When Mo Farrah won the 5K, the expression on his face was absolutely priceless! Scared, shocked? Elated I’d like to think! Mo Farrah running away from things is a Tumblr picturing Mo in a number of rather dangerous situations!
- Olympic mascot Wenlock has been a lucky boy, hanging out with athletes. Not all pictures are as funny as this one, but I hope that the trends catches on with Mandeville!
- Last but certainly not least, the Facebook Page Olympic Memes, has turned dozens of funny Olympic moments into memes. I love this picture of McKayla Maroney as the Mona Lisa, and the Bolt/Carly Rae-Jepson mashup is hilarious.
Now, who wants to kick-start the ‘Boris gets his grove on’ video meme?
