Digital PR Campaigns
Best social media campaigns of 2009 (part 1/2)
Dec 25th
Inspired by Adam Vincenzini’s the top 99 of ’09 , here’s a list of my fav social media campaigns and digital shenanigans of 2009:
January 2009 – The United Sites of Obama
The Obama election campaign was arguably the greatest social media media ever orchestrated to date.
Like a lot of web innovators, the Obama campaign did not invent anything completely new. Instead, by bolting together social networking applications, both niche and mainstream under the banner of a movement, they created an unforeseen force to raise money, organize locally, fight smear campaigns and get out the vote that helped them topple the Clinton More >
California’s Calling
Dec 16th
You might have recently seen a star-studded ad promoting California Tourism on TV, I am indeed talking about the one with Arnie, Ugly Betty’s Vanessa Williams and Becks.
Because we live in a 2.0 world, the folks at California Tourism have decided to organise a UK-wide YouTube audition to find the next person who will get to star in the ad alongside these A-listers. Pretty cool, huh?
Here’s the TV ad:
And here’s Adam Buxton explaining how this all works:
Interested in taking part? There’s a lovely micro-site here, a Facebook Fan Page there and a Twitter feed over there.
When can you start? Gotta love More >
Rage against the x-factor
Dec 9th
Here are a couple of fun experiments that I recently spotted the Social Web:
Rage against the x-factor A couple of Facebookers have created a group in an attempt to organise a mass-purchase of the track ‘Killing in the name’ from December 13th as a protest to the X-Factor dullness.
Social Media brought back the Wispa bar, but can it wipe that smug smile off Simon’s Cowell’s face? Let’s see, shall we?
The Twitter hashtag is #ratm4xmas should you feel the urge to tweet about this initiative!
The lovely people @clothes2order have also jumped on the bandwagon and are offering free set up costs on any t-shirt from More >
Toi, moi et Paris
Nov 30th
I went to Paris for the first time in my life last week-end, and had a fantastic time catching up with a few friends in the French capital.
The Comité Régional du Tourisme of Paris Ile-de-France have recently launched their “Toi, moi et Paris” European campaign, and have asked a number of bloggers to share their ideal vision of the ‘New Paris’.
The objective of this campaign is to make Paris more attractive by highlighting its energy, creativity, romantic yet modern side. I have to admit that I always felt that Paris was a ‘boring’ city, and lacked London’s edge and More >
Fancy winning a Tweeshirt courtesy clothes2order?
Nov 26th
They sent the perfect PR pitch last week, and I even won a Tweeshirt! What else could a geek ask for?
T-shirt printing company clothes2order are currently running a nice little competition asking Twitterers to send a Tweet they’d like to see printed on a T-Shirt. Here’s what to do to win a Tweeshirt: - Follow @Clothes2order on Twitter - Send them a tweet you’d like to see printed on a T-shirt using the #tweeshirt hashag before 14.30 - The winner will be announced at 15.30 every Friday
I have had good and bad experience ordering customised T-shirts online in the past, however the More >
Cobra Twindaloo
Nov 21st
Cobra recently created this Twitter micro-site to celebrate National Curry Week, whereby Twitter users can enter their @names and Tweet their curry type.
The activity aims to reinforce Cobra’s positioning as the beer of choice when eating a curry.
There are however a number of fails in their approach:
- I would have liked to see a big ‘Tweet your curry type’ button on the Twitter micro-site. Their share this button isn’t particularly user-friendly. In addition, no Twitter hashtag was included in the Tweets.
- The Twitter micro site doesn’t link back to their main corporate website and I wasn’t quite sure More >
