How to launch a product with your community
Jul 7th
I recently discovered a brilliant video by Seesmic founder Loic Lemeur, who shares some insightful tips on how to use a community to successfully launch a product, as well the importance of WOM.
The video is in French, but I’ve tried to highlight some of the key learnings here.
To kick things off, Loic mentions that the Web can be segmented into 3 distinctive periods: - 1993-2000 were the years of the static web, i.e. the web was a reproduction of traditional offline media - 2000-2008 were the years of the social web (web 2.0), with the rise of blogs, More >
Top 5 Twitter tools – June 2009
Jun 30th
There are so many Twitter tools out there that’s it’s hard to know which ones are worth using. Here are my tried and tested top 5 Twitter tools; some of these tools are new, others have been around for a while…
1) I have a real soft spot for Tiny Chat at the mo! Tiny Chat is a chatroom where you can host audio and video conferences with a number of friends/colleagues; in addition you can easily share documents with other members of the chat.
2) Splitweet is a great little tool for managing multiple Twitter accounts. They always make a point More >
5 tips to make the most of FriendFeed
May 19th
The blogosphere has been buzzing about FriendFeed lately, unfortunately for the wrong reasons; there seems to be a general lack of understanding about FriendFeed, yet its redesign and search facility make it a fantastic tool for PRs and social media marketers.
Here are a few tips on how to make the most of FriendFeed
1) Fill in your biography and upload your photo – you wouldn’t leave your Twitter profile blank would you?
2) When it comes to FriendFeed, less is more. Whilst you might be able to follow 1000+ people on Twitter, 1000+ FriendFeeds sounds a) silly b) unmanageable. FriendFeed helps you More >
Making the most of the New Facebook Fan Pages
Mar 25th
They’ve done it again, Facebook have updated their layout, and ‘Bring back the old new Facebook’ groups have started to appear like mushrooms! Although you may find these changes annoying as an individual, there are some exciting news for brands with a Fan Page.
The first major change to Facebook is that people no longer need to be a member of Facebook to be able to see the product’s fan page. This, in my opinion, is a fabulous upgrade; the Facebook Fan page now offers you the opportunity to create a dynamic space on the web.
Notice how much fan pages now More >
WOM vs. Digital PR (#mcl2)
Dec 19th
Barcamps are great to exchange ideas with fellow professionals you would never otherwise met. Around 40 marketing professionals braved the rain to attend Media Camp London #2 last Saturday. The interesting Twitter chatter that took place on the day can be found right here.
One of the sessions I took part in, led me to think about the differences between WOM and digital PR, and this post attempts to identify the subtle nuances between both disciplines.
WOM, is a reference to the passing of information from person to person. Word of mouth marketing which emcompasses a variety of sub-categories, including buzz, blog, viral, grassroots, More >
Are bloggers turning into puppets controlled by marketers?
Nov 7th
Social Media Marketing / WOM Marketing / Digital PR – an increasing number of brands are trying to engage with consumers using social media these days.
Social Media is impacting on the decision making process, and marketers have jumped at the opportunity to use bloggers’ influence to get reviews about their products. It’s cheaper than traditional marketing and it seems to work (for now anyway…)
As a blogger and WOM Marketing specialist, I know how things work both from a blogger’s perspective as well as behind the scenes, crafting campaigns and deciding which bloggers we should engage with. [NB: 'engaging' as opposed More >
