Table Ronde de 14h00 : Commerce Social

Table Ronde de 16h00 : Influence Sociale

LBM sponsored by Symantec

Last night’s London Bloggers Meet Up was sponsored by Symantec who bought us all a few drinks and donated a few anti-viruses. Nice!

I’ve always had Norton installed on my machine, and it is simply the best software on the market in my humble experience. I made the huge mistake of switching to Kapersky last year (my bank were offering the software for free), and my computer ended up being infected by countless nasty viruses. I had to reset my computer to factory settings to get rid of them – quite radical if you ask me!

I recently purchased a shiny new Mac, and although the OS is relatively safe, you’re still better off having an anti-virus software installed ‘just in case’. My only criticism is the software’s packaging – it’s huge and only contains a tiny CD and a brochure. Please, please, please, make it smaller!

I’d like to thank Mr Omneo for giving me the anti-virus he won in the raffle; I’ll bring you back those French goodies, I promise!

Looking forward to next year’s LBM!

Twitter + Music = Twitgigs

Since the explosion of micro-blogging service Twitter last year, Twitter-powered events have been mushrooming across London; think Twestival, The Shoreditch Twit, Aperitweat or Twitcamp. Whether you want to network, share your social media knowledge with other Tweeps or simply enjoy a drink or two, there’s something for everyone!

Enters Twitgigs, London’s first ever social media event that combines Twitter with music.

Supported by Smirnoff Night Vision initiative, theTwitgigs Experiment will take place at The Vibe Bar on 6th August and will feature a battle of the bands competition, on-screen live twitter feeds, and music-related giveaways on the night.

The August event is a chance to bring the online interaction to a real world space, combining live entertainment with social technology.

Smirnoff Original Nights provided organisers Rax and Nisha with an opportunity to fuse together their individual passions (@nishajl’s love for independent live music and @raxlakhani’s fascination with online communities) into a unique and hopefully memorable blend; Twitter + Music = Twitgigs

You can get your ticket right here. Will you be there? ;)

Girl Geek Dinner @ Google

I went to the 3rd Girl Geek Dinners anniversary last night at Google’s HQ in London! It was so exciting to be dining in the offices of an Internet giant! Well I didn’t see their office per se (the security is pretty tight) but they have an awesome restaurant ;)

There were a couple of interesting talks about the challenges of web design and mobile web design by one of the Googlers. As far as mobile web-design is concerned, the sites should only focus on one thing, and should be consistent with the user experience for different brands of mobile phones. Google use personas to put themselves in the end user’s shoes… Very similar to the sort of stuff I used to do in qual research!

There was also a (slightly depressing) talk around work/life balance. Unsurprisingly the UK and Ireland have the longest working hours in Europe. I got chatting to the CEO of Wee World who told me how difficult it is to juggle business and family life… The Google work/life balance sounds absolutely amazing as Google let their employees manage their working hours as long as the work gets done of course ;)

There are more photos right here. I also tried to take a picture of the screen showing the different searches as well as the Google logo but was told at reception I wasn’t allowed to :(

It was a very pleasant evening, and many thanks to Google for having us!
