Using social content to drive sales through search

There’s a very wrong assumption floating around the heads of many CMO’s and small business owners alike, that having a Facebook page and Twitter profile is enough, because social media is this new and wonderful thing which is going ‘to do wonders’ for your brand. I am sure we’ve all had clients who have asked for thousands of fans and followers, as quickly as possible without any content, or budget to create conte...

A few social, search and mobile trends for 2012

I am not usually a big fan of prediction posts, particularly when it comes to social, but recently spotted a handful of predictions by industry experts worth mentioning.   Without further ado, here are a handful interesting social, search and mobile trends for 2012. These 3 disciplines are inextricably interlinked, yet too often siloed, so I figured I would sum them all up in one...

Photo via Dear blog, It is that time of the year where I should publish my New Year's Resolutions for all to see. Wish me luck, and thanks James for inspiring me! Resolution #1: blog more  I've been suffering from blogger's fatigue on and off since I started blogging back in 2006, which has sadly impacted on the quality of the content on this blog. I recently spotted a tremendous post by Mack ...

    Blogfest 2011 - Topshop's smart Tumblr strategy

Here is at long last, my first entry for the Bathroom Blogfest 2011 on how Topshop uses to Tumblr to 'climb out'. I do promise I'll put up a bathroom related post tomorrow for fun though! Here we go! Brands have embraced social media as a means to 'climb out' and 'hang out' with their fans on social networks. Some brands do it well, others have had their fails...  I've been in working in the social industry for a ...

Geotag your Internet life

Tagging is an amazing way of categorising user-generated content and brings order to the huge amount of content on the Web.   Don’t you love searching Flickr photos for inspiration, or browsing WordPress tags for articles of interest? None of this would be possible without tagging.

Geo-tagging has been around for a while, and millions of people are already doing so every time they upload a geo-coded photo to Flickr, or Tweet about a specific place.  To get a sense of what some of this activity looks like, check out Twittervision (a bit spooky!) or Flickrvision (awesome!)  which show Tweets and Flickr photos, on More >

Are bloggers turning into puppets controlled by marketers?

Social Media Marketing / WOM Marketing / Digital PR – an increasing number of brands are trying to engage with consumers using social media these days.

Social Media is impacting on the decision making process, and marketers have jumped at the opportunity to use bloggers’ influence to get reviews about their products. It’s cheaper than traditional marketing and it seems to work (for now anyway…)

As a blogger and WOM Marketing specialist, I know how things work both from a blogger’s perspective as well as behind the scenes, crafting campaigns and deciding which bloggers we should engage with. [NB: 'engaging' as opposed More >

America made the world proud yesterday when it elected Barack Obama, America’s first black President. Regardless of what your political opinions are, this is a truly historic moment.

This year’s election was amazing in terms of the content that was created both online and offline.

There is a lot of cool stuff  out there but I have decided to focus on the things that made me smile. Feel free to leave me a comment with any links/images that make you tick

storytlr the cool new lifestream

Storytlr is a new exciting lifestream I discovered yesterday.

Lifestreams are a funny breed… there are quite a few around but they never seem to come up spontaneously in conversations, and I believe the market is still very much open to new entrants. FriendFeed was a life saver back in the day where the Fail Whale was a regular on our screens! I don’t find its layout particularly user-friendly, but I really enjoy FrienFeed’s conversational aspect on the other hand.

Storytlr is a lifestream, that could easily be mistaken for a wordpress blog! I am really keen on being able to easily search content I created More >

TK Maxx

Here we go! This is my first official 2008 Bathroom Blogfest post… and a mini-rant about these forgotten spaces around us.

Today I’d like to talk about discount clothing chains and their messy shop floors! I’d like to name and shame TK Maxx and Primark! If the credit crunch if biting you hard, these shops may sound like heaven, but I personally think they are an absolute disgrace.

Shopping is a pleasurable experience, and according to research, people who really enjoy shopping may be experiencing a shopper’s high, just like a runner’s high.

During a shopping experience, More >
