A few social, search and mobile trends for 2012

I am not usually a big fan of prediction posts, particularly when it comes to social, but recently spotted a handful of predictions by industry experts worth mentioning.   Without further ado, here are a handful interesting social, search and mobile trends for 2012. These 3 disciplines are inextricably interlinked, yet too often siloed, so I figured I would sum them all up in one...

Photo via Dear blog, It is that time of the year where I should publish my New Year's Resolutions for all to see. Wish me luck, and thanks James for inspiring me! Blogfest 2011 - Topshop's smart Tumblr strategy

Here is at long last, my first entry for the Bathroom Blogfest 2011 on how Topshop uses to Tumblr to 'climb out'. I do promise I'll put up a bathroom related post tomorrow for fun though! Here we go! Brands have embraced social media as a means to 'climb out' and 'hang out' with their fans on social networks. Some brands do it well, others have had their fails...  I've been in working in the social industry for a ...

Using social content to drive sales through search

There’s a very wrong assumption floating around the heads of many CMO’s and small business owners alike, that having a Facebook page and Twitter profile is enough, because social media is this new and wonderful thing which is going ‘to do wonders’ for your brand. I am sure we’ve all had clients who have asked for thousands of fans and followers, as quickly as possible without any content, or budget to create conte...

Using technology to deepen engagement in advertising

I will be lecturing Digital PR at my old university later on this month, which made me think about how different marketing was back in the day, and how it has evolved thanks to technology. (I was one of the few students with a dial-up Internet connection at home back in the day!)

As Social Media practitioners and all round geeks, we tend to forget that average consumers, quite bluntly, couldn’t care less about Twitter, Foursquare and the likes. We do know, however that average consumers, are on Facebook and own mobiles/smartphones. ***

Building traffic and engagement is key to successful websites and blogs. Content sharing is an increasingly important activity on Facebook and Twitter (primarily), and it will only grow with content curators becoming increasingly influential.

Until now, we’ve had Tweet and Facebook Like buttons in individual blog posts, but social toolbars are becoming increasingly popular.

Social toolbars not only provide your visitors with an easy solution for sharing your content, which integrate your social media presence directly into your blog or websites. Social toolbars typically include a search bar, RSS feed, social networking links and buttons to tweet, like and share your content.

It’s that time of the year again, where I’ll be taking a look at the most exciting automotive campaigns of 2010.

Toyota Conversations – Crisis Management

Back in March, Toyota delt with negative backlash from the massive safety recalls of its vehicles. The Japanese auto giant launched a branded channel on TweetMeme in partnership with Federated Media, aggregating and organizing Twitter conversations regarding Toyota in an attempt to repair its image.

The site brings together the top stories being Tweeted about Toyota, from news articles to press releases. The site also shows visitors the most popular videos and images being shared about Toyota More >

The saga continues: George Clooney and John Malkovich star in a second Nespresso coffee ad

I absolutely adore the Nespresso commercial featuring Clooney and Malkovich which aired on the French screens last year. Surprisingly the ad wasn’t translated (thank god for that – there’s only so much dubbing I can take!) making it even more memorable.

In the last year’s instalment of the Nespresso coffee saga, George Clooney found himself at the Pearly Gates of heaven after dying in a freak accident. There he encounters St Peter in the form of John Malkovich who offers him the option to return to earth in return for his Nespresso coffee machine.

In the new episode, shot in Milan, George appears More >

Blogger outreach has proliferated in the last couple of years as firms and clients increasingly see the value of exposing bloggers and their audiences to their campaigns and products.

The problem is that the big dogs, are being approached over and over again. So how do you get your pitch to stand out from the crowd?
