One of the most hotly debated topics in the search industry is the importance of a Web page’s URL structure, in other words, the web address for ranking purposes. Some SEO experts feel placing keywords in the URL is vitally important; a web page simply won’t rank well without keywords in the URL.
On the flip side, other SEO experts believe keywords in the URL don’t make or break search engine positions. Yet they nevertheless recognize how important keywords are from a usability perspective, both in terms of search engines’ and site visitors’.
If you are a Wordpress user, you will be familiar with the permalink tool bar below.
If you have a very long URL, you might want to edit your permalink and focus on selected keywords for maximum SEO goodness.
You might have heard of the Telegraph permalink fiasco today I just decided to run a little experiment and edited the permalink on this blog post.

Have you spotted my amendment yet? Look up!
I just wanted to clarify that I would never call the Prime Minister names. This is simply a little SEO experiment of my own to see how my traffic will be affected.

Rule #1: SEO is a crucial element of a successful Social Media Campaign
Imagine you’re setting up a blog on behalf of a client, you should not only be able to guide and support them in terms of content, layout, plugins etc but also in terms of SEO to make sure the blog lands the top spot on Google.

… and I am ready for new challenges! In other words, there will be a lot of changes on this site over the coming month weeks.
It amazing to see how things have changed over the last couple of years… blogging was something I did in my spare time and I never really cared about rankings or traffic. And then someone introduced me to a tool that has made me realise that this very blog needs a lot of work!
Website Grader is a free SEO tool that measures the marketing effectiveness of a website. It provides a score that incorporates things like website traffic, SEO, social popularity and other technical factors. It also provides some basic advice on how the website can be improved from a marketing perspective.
Website grader is dead easy to use – just enter your URL and you’ll get a full report of your blog emailed over within 10 minutes!
Because I am (sadly) a bit of a perfectionist, I’ve decided to take the plunge and self-host my blog as I really need to do something about my non-existent metadata (blame wordpress)!
Website Grader is definitely worth a try… you might learn a thing or two
